Children: Assignment 4

Yup, can you, will you, explain this in your own words?

Deuteronomy  14:1

1You are the children of the Lord your God.  Do not cut yourselves or shave the front of your heads for the dead,

                Romans 9:8

8In other words, it is not the natural children who are God’s children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham’s offspring.

Common question: Why does the bible say this this and this when it doesn’t apply to my life?  Why all the rules we don’t follow anymore?

God calls us to live to a higher standard.  He set apart his people from the pagans by making these rules.  Maybe when this verse was written there was a trend to mourn for the dead by shaving the front of the head.  To me that doesn’t mean that you can’t shave the front of your head ever, but pay attention to the context of the “rule” and what God is saying.  People have the tone wrong when they read the Bible blind to it.  They miss all the emotion and no wonder when Satan attacks the Bible to make it boring and dry.  It was said that when you read the Bible as a letter to a friend you can grasp all the rules and passion behind it when you apply it to your own life.  Don’t shave the front of your heads for the dead, that’s unnecessary, don’t tattoo yourselves to show what you believe, that’s unnecessary, I am your God and I will show Myself through you without you having to act like a pagan who finds it necessary to self proclaim their deity.  God is more than capable of showing Himself in your life if you let Him.  And God is more than capable of showing Himself through you even if you did get a tattoo.  I can touch on that in another assignment.

The verse from the new Testament touches on the children of God and who are the children of God.  That will be another assignment in a different project.
